2)  Volunteering at the Meet:

5)  Orientation Tours:
In addition to getting our swimmers some meet experience (we will have marshalling, timing etc.) we want to familiarize our parents with the processes of the meet and answer any questions.  There will be sessions offered on Saturday morning by experienced Kigoos parents.  More info on this to come later today or tomorrow.
Hopefully this answers most of your questions about Saturday.

Intermediate White Update from Coach Alexis

May 23rd, 2017 | Posted by kigooswm in Coaches Corner - (Comments Off on Intermediate White Update from Coach Alexis)

Hello Intermediate Whites!!

I hope everyone had a super fun long weekend and are ready to swim hard this week. By now we are all familiar with the general rules for each race so this week will be more focused on the specific things we can all do to improve our strokes. We will definitely be reviewing or dives and turns so we are all prepared for Ice Breaker! I’m super excited about how fast everyone has been improving and you are all putting in a lot of effort which is amazing.
The Mock Meet is coming up on Saturday and I encourage all of you to come, especially if you have never been to a swim meet before because it is an excellent learning experience.
Come prepared to work hard this week and I will see you on the pool deck!

Junior Red Update from Coach Jacob

May 22nd, 2017 | Posted by kigooswm in Coaches Corner - (Comments Off on Junior Red Update from Coach Jacob)

Hey Jr. Reds!

Welcome to Kigoos 2017!

For those who might not know, my name is Coach Jacob Lee. This is my 11th year as a Kigoo and 4th year coaching. My most recent swimming accomplishment would have to be winning a Gold Medal at High School Provincials in 50 Free this year.

Enough about me, let’s look at the season ahead. My two main ideas about swimming this summer are:

1. Technique before strength. I want our swimming technique to be as good as possible before we start ramping up the distance we swim and the speed we are swimming at.

2. There is another Jr. Red group out there, somewhere in the region or the province working hard every practice. So we must work hard to train hard and swim faster than they do.

You should all have your ‘Coach Jacob’s Ten Tips for Swimming Success’ put them in your rooms up on a wall, or somewhere you can see them before you leave for practice. These are so important if we really want to get the most out of each and every practice. You should all have filled out your Goal Sheets. If you don’t have one yet, can’t find your best times or don’t just haven’t returned it to me. Come see me at practice ASAP.

If your parents have any questions or concerns about anything in regards to swimming, training or Kigoos events please come and see me after any afternoon practice!

I look forward to an amazing season and being the top group in the province!

Ps. Sorry for the late post. I’ll work to be getting a post out weekly with updates to our training plans and meet accomplishments!

Junior White Update from Coach Tamara

May 20th, 2017 | Posted by kigooswm in Coaches Corner - (Comments Off on Junior White Update from Coach Tamara)
Hi Junior White swimmers and parents!
Welcome back all old and new swimmers to our 2017 summer season. My name is Tamara Yoshida, and I have the privilege to coach this year’s Junior White group. This is my third year coaching with Kigoos and my 13th year swimming with the club and have qualified for provincials since 2007.
General group expectations:
  1. Come to as many practices as possible and be ready to work hard.
  2. When myself or another coach is talking always have your head up and not talking.
  3. Being respectful and encourage other swimmers
  4. Always following the correct set and staying on task (three strikes you sit out)
  5. Have fun
10 things for success this summer.
  1. Come to practice on time with runners and a water bottle everyday.
  2. Know there is room for improvement.
  3. Always practice like you’re racing
  4. Always practice good technique, practicing bad habits won’t help you and will be harder to undo later.
  5. If a coach is giving you corrections for improvement, implement it.
  6. Always circle swim, and go on the correct pace time
  7. Make sure you are doing proper streamlines off every wall, along with proper underwaters and breakouts.
  8. Always practice good proper turns when we are swimming distances greater than 25m; NOT STOPING at walls.
  9. Be prepared to push yourself out of your comfort zone.
  10. Bring a positive attitude to practice.
Parents don’t forget to sign up your children for the appropriate swim meets before the deadline, late sign ups create problems for the coaches and might not be guaranteed. If there is anything you think I should know about your swimmer please do come talk to me or send me an email.
If you have any question feel free to send me an email at or if you would like to talk to me in person after practice is always an excellent time to talk as well.
See you poolside!

Senior White Update from Coach Michael

May 15th, 2017 | Posted by kigooswm in Coaches Corner - (Comments Off on Senior White Update from Coach Michael)

Hello Sr. Whites!

My Name Is Michael Jakac-Sinclair, and I am a first year political science student at Carleton University. I am very glad to be back coaching the Kigoos, and looking to build off of the successes from last season. For some background information about myself; I swam competitively for 11 years, with the Vancouver Vikings, Richmond Rapids, and the Canadian Dolphins Swim Club. Through the years I became a sprint focused swimmer more so in the sprint freestyle. I have won gold at multiple Provincials, competed at multiple Western Canadian Championships, won gold at the Canadian Age Group Nationals in the medley relay and a Provincial record holder in the medley relay also. I carried on these experiences through and want to continue doing so.

The main goal as a coach I have for the year is helping the athletes get to there goal. Whether that is getting a time they want, competing at provincials, completing and competing in a harder race, or fitness levels; I am here to help everyone get to their goal. All I want is 100% in and I’ll give 100% out!

Let’s have an awesome season!

Michael Jakac-Sinclair
