Kigoos Updates for May 24th

May 24th, 2016 | Posted by kigooswm in Notifier - (Comments Off on Kigoos Updates for May 24th)
1)  In the earlier note re:  Salt Spring – we will still be booking camping space as a club, for “camping plans” we just need to know numbers so we can plan appropriately. You do not need to book camping space individually.
1)  We have been asked by the City to remind our families there are no dogs allowed in the South Arm building and park.  Also, rollerbladers must remove their rollerblades and bikers must dismount before entering the South Arm facility.
2)  We are hoping for a few more swimmers to sign-up for the Ice Breaker at Watermania next weekend.  We have extended the sign-up (HERE) to Friday at noon.  While you are signing up, please also sign-up for the Boundary Bay Meet the following week – other meets will be added soon.
3)  This Wednesday (tomorrow) is the Parent Orientation at 4:30 at South Arm Pool.  HERE is also the information from the previous Notifier.  This is a great session for new and returning families to get the scoop on what is coming ahead.
4)  Next Monday to Wednesday (May 30 – June 1) are the Stroke and Turn Clinics for parents.  HERE is all the information.  This is a great way to be involved at swim meets – you see the action close-up, get well fed and earn your parent participation hours.
5)  This weekend the Kigoos Breakfast (see below) replaces the JD Practices on Saturday morning.  Weekend practices on Saturday at Watermania for other groups will continue.  All groups will have their final weekend practices this Sunday at South Arm (JD) and Watermania (all other groups).
The Kigoos Breakfast is this Saturday, May 28th from 9:00 – 11:30
The event will include breakfast, handing out caps and t-shirts and an open swim and is a great way for new and returning families to connect.  Also at the breakfast . . . .
1)  Gear Swap –  Bring your gently used swim gear to donate, swap or sell to other Kigoos families.  We will have a table set up at breakfast and you can come and mingle with other parents and trade/sell swim items.  All of our kids are growing at a rapid rate and this is a great way for us to share items and save a little money while we’re at it.  If you want to sell your items, it will be up to you to coordinate the sale.   Thanks to Chandra and Nicole for organizing this.
2)  Yingfa Closing Out Sale – Are you looking for a great deal on suits and goggles?  Yingfa will be coming to the breakfast to sell off their remaining inventory – this is your last chance for these deals.  They have about 300 suits, some parkas and lots of Goggles.  The Yingfa sale (George’s daughter is coming) will be from 9:30 – 11:00
3)  Breakfast Orders – Breakfast is included for all family members!  We will have a waffle, 2 sausages and hot chocolate  / coffee.  We need to an accurate food total – Please complete this FORM indicating how many from your family will be joining us for breakfast.  The Deadline is8 pm tomorrow, May 25th.
4)  Volunteers – we need helpers for the breakfast this Saturday.  Please email Nancy at if you are able to help.

Salt Spring Island – Time Sensitive

May 24th, 2016 | Posted by kigooswm in Calendar | Meets | Notifier - (Comments Off on Salt Spring Island – Time Sensitive)
We have a bit of a time crunch with planning for the Salt Spring Island Swim Meet as it is two weeks earlier than this year.  This meet is open to swimmers in division 5 and above and their families.  With the scheduling for this year, families would likely take the ferry over on Friday July 8th and return and Sunday July 10th.
For families not attending – there is a local meet at Watermania that weekend.
You must register by this Friday to attend the Salt Spring Island Meet.  Please complete the form on the Swim Meet sign-up page HERE.  Please include your camping plans in the Comments section with total numbers from families attending.  Swimmers cannot go unsupervised.  Parent(s) need to attend, or plans need to be made clear of who is the parent-designate for the swimmer for the weekend.
We need this information to make camping and ferry arrangements.
If you have any questions – please contact Zoë at

Pool Access
We will continue with the current schedule at Minoru and South Arm Pools until Friday, June 10th.  The exception will be Friday, June 3rd when we will use Watermania to get set for the Ice Breaker there on June 4th and 5th.
From Monday June 13th until Thursday, June 30th we will be using Minoru Pool for all our groups.  We will have exclusive access to Minoru Pool and we will have a new schedule that will look similar to what a June practice schedule at Steveston typically looks.
If all goes well, we will return to Steveston Pool on Monday, July 4th and have our regular summer access at the pool.
Swim Meet Sign-Up
Swim meet sign-up is now posted HERE for the first two weekend meets, the Kigoos Ice Breaker and the Boundary Bay Meet.  It is the same process as previous years.  Generally, you need to sign-up about 2 weeks before the meet.  Sign-up for JD Meets and other weekend meets will be posted shortly.  JD Swimmers should confirm with their coaches if they should register for weekend meets.  We hope ALL our swimmers will swim at the Ice Breaker Meet at Watermania.
Team Aquatic Discount
A reminder to all Kigoos families and especially for new families that The Swim & Fitness Shop at Watermania and other Team Aquatics locations gives swimmers 20% off of regular priced items. Please find your Shark Card attached. You can save it as a photo to your phone and use it upon purchase.
Kigoos Family Pizza Party
Hopefully everyone will be able to come to a special event on Sunday, May 29th from 3 – 6 pm.  We will supply pizza for everyone and have an open swim.  We will also do posters and cheers with all the swimmers, have  Kigoos clothing for sale, have a swap meet for all your swim gear and handout the new Kigoos practice and racing caps for the season.
Thanks everyone for all you assistance in making the best of the current pool situation.  Please continue to contact your child’s coach or Head Coach Emmy ( with any swim questions and email Chris and Andrea at with any general questions about the club.

April 25th – Notifier

April 25th, 2016 | Posted by kigooswm in Notifier - (Comments Off on April 25th – Notifier)

The following email was sent out this morning to all families registered for the 2016 Season:

Welcome to the Richmond Kigoos and the 2016 Summer Swim Season.
There is a lot of important information in this email, so please review carefully.
First, as you may have guessed if you have been by Steveston Pool lately, it will not be ready for the start of the season.  Over the last few weeks as the City has worked to prepare the pool for the 2016 season, they have discovered a series of repairs that need to be completed before the pool can be used.  They are currently doing these repairs and working to have the pool open soon.  As soon as we have a firm date for the opening of Steveston Pool we will share that with all members of the club.
While we don’t have Steveston Pool to start the season, the City has been excellent to work with as they have found us alternate pool space at the Minoru pools, Watermania and South Arm.  They are opening South Arm Pool early strictly for our use.
We know that many families in the club live in Steveston and this schedule to start the season will create some challenges, we all look forward to being back in Steveston Pool shortly.
Now, for the groups and schedules.
The initial group listings have been posted HERE on the website.  There is also a document outlining group placements on the same page.  Groups are fluid, especially early in the season so changes will be made and the page will regularly be updated.  If your child is not listed or if you have questions please email Head Coach Emilia at
The schedules are also posted now HERE.  This is the schedule we will use until we return to Steveston Pool.  Please review the schedule carefully.  You will see that all JD Groups practice at South Arm Pool.  The first day for JD Practices is Saturday May 7th.
The first day for other groups is Monday, May 2nd.
Our groups actually have more hours of practice with this schedule than they will when they return to Steveston Pool.
There is a lot more information, but I know the information around times is most important.  I will be sending regular Notifiers to answer questions as they come up.
Again, I appreciate your patience and understanding as we deal with the alternate plans to start the season.
If you have questions and are not sure who to contact – please feel free to send emails to  These emails go to both Andrea Nishi and I (Chris Kennedy) and one of us will be back to you within 24 hours.
See you all next week!
