Starting Monday July 20th through Friday July 24th the Jr. Whites will be swimming their hardest week of the season, Hell Week! This week will be extra tough but we still expect 100% effort from everyone.The theme for this week is “Shipwreck.” The swimmers were all on a boat which was ambushed by the evil pirates Long-John Liam and the Atrocious Alexis. The pirates have stolen their boat and abandoned the swimmers on a small island in the middle of the ocean. There are no rescue boats or land to be seen and the only way off the island is to swim all the way back to Richmond. From the island to Richmond is 6000 meters, can we make it back?As an incentive to come to practices and work hard, the reward will be Scoops. The amount of Scoops a swimmer can get is based on the amount of practices they attend and effort exhibited at each practice. The criteria for to receive these ice cream scoops is as follows:5 practices – 1 scoop6 practices – 2 scoops + 1 topping6 practices and attendance at the Triathlon OR Grouse Grind – 3 scoops + 2 toppings6 practices, Triathlon, and Grouse Grind OR 100% effort at one – 3 scoops + 3 toppingsThe Scoops party will be held the week following Hell Week. If your child has any allergies could you please email both Liam and I so we know exactly what to avoid buying.All this information will be told to the swimmers in the next few practices and the Scoop criteria will be posted on the window outside the coaching office. Hey Junior Whites! We’ve had a couple weeks of great practices, as we can see with the tremendous improvements we’ve made individually. The Smokey sky didn’t stop us from impressing at North Shore, and Coach Alexis and I are really looking forward to seeing what we can all do at Hootenanny this weekend! A couple things we have to remember:
- TURNS TURNS TURNS!! At this point in the season we’ve covered turns excessively, so we should all know what is expected of us at each wall. Flip turns in freestyle races and in practice are not optional. Same goes for two hand touches in Breaststroke and Fly.
- We need to see everyone trying for at least 5 underwater dolphin kicks off the wall in our Fly, Back, and Free races. These need to be done in a tight streamline.
- Make sure we get our elbows up in Freestyle. Swinging our arms wide slows us down.

We’ve had a great week of practicing and getting ready for the Icebreaker. As returning swimmers know the Icebreaker is a lot of fun! We know that swim meets can be a confusing thing for new swimmers, so if you have any questions please email both email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org. Emailing is the best way to reach us as we check it everyday.
We’ve done a lot of work on dives and turns, and we’re really looking forward to seeing it pay off this weekend!
Important reminder!!! Before we can go into the back field, we need everyone to start wearing runners and active clothing to activation. This is super important, and we really appreciate everyone who’s already been bringing runners to practice. Also, please bring a water bottle to practice, as the summer starts to heat up.

Alexis and I have really enjoyed the past week and getting to know you all a little bit better. We are really looking forward to this summer, especially with the improvements we’ve already seen!
This week we did a lot of work on our Breastroke, and introduced our Butterfly arms. Swimmers should continue to focus on flexing the feet during the Breastroke kick.
Last Saturday we had a little coaches and parents meeting. If you weren’t able to attend, one of the points we stressed is that we expect our swimmers to show up to activation wearing runners. There is a lot of movement during activation, and having all the swimmers wearing runners is a great way to make sure no one trips!
